New Gas Discovery Boosts Egypt’s Production After Dana Gas Announcement
Gas discovery in Egypt’s onshore Nile Delta marks a significant boost for the country’s energy sector, following Dana Gas’ announcement of reserves estimated between 15 and 25 billion cubic feet at the North El-Basant-1 well, with expected daily output of at least 8 million cubic feet.
The gas discovery forms part of a $100 million investment program aimed at strengthening domestic production, supporting Egypt’s ability to meet rising natural gas demand, and reducing reliance on liquefied natural gas imports.
This gas discovery is the fourth within the program, as Dana Gas plans to commence drilling its fifth well in early January 2026, under a broader strategy that includes 11 development and exploration wells across its concession areas.
Egypt is counting on such discoveries to reinforce energy security, with estimates suggesting the new find could generate savings exceeding $1 billion for the national economy by cutting LNG and fuel imports and boosting local supply.
The development underscores Egypt’s ongoing efforts to expand its natural gas resources, support economic growth, and strengthen the country’s energy balance in the coming years.
