Investment Minister Stresses Urgent Need for Tangible Results in Food Security

The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade stressed that food security is a top priority on the global economic agenda, highlighting the urgent need to achieve tangible outcomes that enhance the resilience of developing countries, particularly net food importers.

Speaking during ministerial meetings on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the minister underscored the central role of agricultural negotiations within the World Trade Organization framework and the importance of delivering practical solutions.

He noted that addressing public stockholding for strategic purposes, facilitating technology transfer, and improving agricultural services are key pillars in strengthening food security and boosting productivity across developing economies.

The minister emphasized that WTO reform must remain development-focused, with greater transparency and effective implementation of special and differential treatment provisions to safeguard the interests of least developed countries.

He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working with international partners and supporting initiatives that facilitate investment for development, helping attract foreign direct investment into strategic sectors and generate employment.

Concluding his remarks, the minister said sustained ministerial dialogue and multilateral cooperation are essential to delivering real progress on food security and reinforcing the stability of the global trading system.
