Eni to Start Drilling a Second Gas Well Near Zohr Field in Egypt

Eni is preparing to launch a new phase of exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, with plans to start drilling a second gas well under the Nour concession in Egypt next February, supporting the country’s strategy to boost natural gas production and energy security.

According to government sources, the new well will require an investment of around $150 million, highlighting its economic and technical significance, particularly given its proximity to the giant Zohr field, Egypt’s largest gas-producing asset.

The Nour concession covers an area of about 100 square kilometers off North Sinai and is operated by a consortium led by Eni, alongside international and regional partners, reflecting strong confidence in the area’s geological potential.

Potential for Major Discoveries

Preliminary studies suggest that the first Nour well holds reserves estimated at around half a trillion cubic feet of natural gas, while the second well could unlock even larger volumes due to its closeness to the Zohr field.

Industry experts note that Eni’s expanded drilling program strengthens Egypt’s role as a regional gas hub and supports government plans to increase domestic supply and reduce reliance on imports.
