Egypt’s Public Business Sector Minister Discusses Auto and EV Localization with China’s Shandong Group

Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Shimi, received a high-level delegation from China’s Shandong Heavy Industry Group as part of efforts to enhance industrial cooperation and attract foreign investment.

The minister highlighted the depth of strategic relations between Egypt and China and the government’s commitment to partnering with major global industrial groups, particularly in automotive manufacturing, electric vehicles, and advanced technologies.

Shimi stressed that reviving El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company is a key strategic project, noting comprehensive upgrades to infrastructure and production lines in line with the latest global technologies.

He added that El Nasr’s strong industrial capabilities, skilled workforce, and large production capacity position it as a cornerstone for localizing automotive manufacturing in Egypt, especially electric and environmentally friendly vehicles.

Discussions included potential cooperation projects such as manufacturing electric vehicle batteries, supporting Egypt’s clean energy transition and technology transfer, as well as expanding existing cooperation in electric minibuses and increasing local content.

The Shandong delegation praised Egypt’s industrial potential and El Nasr’s infrastructure, expressing strong interest in deepening partnership opportunities in vehicle and component manufacturing for both local and export markets.
