Former Antiquities Minister: Egypt Is the World’s Richest Country in Antiquities
Former Antiquities Minister Mamdouh El-Damaty stated that Egypt is the richest country in the world in terms of antiquities, thanks to its unique and unparalleled cultural heritage spanning thousands of years.
He highlighted the important role played by regional museums in displaying thousands of artifacts that had remained in storage for decades, noting that these museums have helped raise archaeological awareness and reconnect local communities with their historical roots.
El-Damaty explained that the Grand Egyptian Museum was originally conceived to accommodate the vast number of artifacts that could not be displayed at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, using modern museological techniques that reflect the greatness of ancient Egyptian civilization.
He stressed that Egypt is the richest country in the world in terms of antiquities, possessing some of humanity’s most significant archaeological treasures, which give it a unique global standing.
El-Damaty also noted that Egypt is witnessing intense archaeological activity, with hundreds of international missions operating across the country and making frequent discoveries, reinforcing the view that Egypt is the richest country in the world in terms of antiquities.
